P. C. (Polycarp Cyprian) Henkel (1820-1889), Lutheran minister and son of Reverend David Henkel, was born in Lincoln County, N.C. He entered the ministry in 1843, under the Tennessee Synod, and served for 46 years as Lutheran pastor, missionary, organizer, and educator.
